Maintenance Products was
incorporated in the state of Indiana in 1969 by its founder, Henry L.
Jones. While the business grew, Henry would work nights at the old
Budd Plant in Gary, Indiana as a die setter and sold hardware during the
day. His wife and kids would box up the bulk product into smaller packs and
ship out what Henry sold the previous day.
The first MPI warehouse
was a converted carport attached to Henry's home in Highland, Indiana.
That lasted about two years until the floor joists started to sway under
load of several tons of steel and all the merchandise and shelving was
moved to a bigger facility in East Chicago, Indiana, the heart of steel
mill country. This warehouse lasted about two years until the company
outgrew that one and yet another located on the family homestead in
Griffith, Indiana. All the moving finally ended in 1976 when our current
facility was purchased with plenty of land around it for expansion.
Our founder, Henry
Jones, died May 24, 2001 at the age of seventy-one. He left a legacy
for his wife and his children that will be remembered for generations to come.
"Always do the right thing." Thanks, Dad.
